Erin Hostetler

The Patio Farmer

Erin got her bread and butter farm education while working on a 20-acre Certified Organic production farm in western Pennsylvania. Over the last three years, she has volunteered on an urban farm in central London, an organic farm in eastern Iceland and several local farms in Charlotte and Concord.

From June 2016 to December 2017, Erin worked for Friendship Gardens as the Farm Manager at the Urban Farm at Garinger High School. Through an extensive Garden Network, Friendship Gardens grows food for Friendship Trays, Charlotte’s “meals-on-wheels” organization. Erin also worked for Bosky Acres Goat Dairy as an Assistant Cheese Maker and at Earth Fare Ballantyne & South Park.

Erin holds a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and Global Studies from Appalachian State University and a Master of Arts in Global Ethics and Human Values from King’s College London, where her dissertation focused on developing a global, rights based, food ethic. Her intention is to create change within our local and national food systems.

Erin's current "day job" is working as the Program Coordinator for the Energy & Environment Innovation Foundation. In this capacity, she is able to fuse her passions for sustainable agriculture, food production, environmental ethics, sustainable energy, watershed management and community building into a beautiful interdisciplinary role. She also serves on the Board of Directors for the Charlotte Mecklenburg Food Policy Council.

Erin and her SO currently operate a 1.6 acre homestead in northwest Charlotte where they manage a small, backyard goat herd, compost religiously, are building their own raised beds and will be getting chickens and bees soon!

Outside of food production, Erin enjoys traveling (abroad preferably), yoga, adult coloring, being outside, fermenting things, canning and cuddling with her boyfriend's black lab, Eleanor.
