Erin Hostetler

The Patio Farmer

As a sprout, growing up in Charlotte, she hated yard work. Weeding? You kidding? It wasn’t until adulthood that she realized her passion for plants and growing food. Its never too late to learn how to grow!

Erin got her bread and butter farm education while working on a 20-acre Certified Organic production farm in western Pennsylvania. Over the last three years, she has volunteered on an urban farm in central London, an organic farm in eastern Iceland and several local farms in Charlotte and Concord.

Since June 2016 Erin has been working as the Farm Manager at the Urban Farm at Garinger High School, overseen by Friendship Gardens. Through an extensive Garden Network, Friendship Gardens grows food for Friendship Trays, Charlotte’s “meals-on-wheels” organization. Erin also works at Bosky Acres Goat Dairy as an Assistant Cheese Maker and at Earth Fare Ballantyne.

Erin holds a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and Global Studies from Appalachian State University and a Master of Arts in Global Ethics and Human Values from King’s College London, where her dissertation focused on developing a global, rights based, food ethic. Her intention is to create change within our local and national food systems.

Outside of food production, Erin enjoys traveling, yoga, kayaking, hiking, picking berries, canning and cuddling with her boyfriend's black lab, Eleanor.
